Billboard — On Billboard’s airplay/sales/streaming-based Hot Country Songs chart, which Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again” leads for a seventh week, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood notch the highest debut in nearly a year-and-a-half, as “Somethin’ Bad” begins at No. 5. It enters Country Digital Songs at No. 1 – becoming Lambert’s first leader on the list (and Underwood’s third) – with 107,000 downloads sold following the pair’s performance of it on the Billboard Music Awards (May 18).
“Bad” makes the best start on Hot Country Songs since Cassadee Pope, the third-season winner of NBC’s “The Voice,” soared in at No. 3 with her cover of Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy” on the Dec. 29, 2012, chart.
The song previews Lambert’s fifth album, “Platinum,” due June 3; first single “Automatic” continues its rise, returning to its Hot Country Songs peak (7-6). When “Automatic” reached the top 10 on the April 19 Country Airplay chart (where this week it lifts 6-4), it marked the first top 10 by a solo female in two months. “I’m damn glad to have my spot here,” Lambert says. “I’m happy as a little lark. I’ve worked hard to make relationships with radio and my fans. It took a long time to get where I am and I’m thankful that people are responding.”
Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood will team up for the CMT Music Awards on June 4 in Nashville to sing “Something Bad.” The duet will be included on Lambert’s upcoming album, Platinum, arriving June 3.
Both women are nominated in the video of the year category. Lambert will compete with “Automatic,” as well as “We Were Us” with Keith Urban, while Underwood is on the ballot with “See You Again.” Lambert is this year’s leading nominee with six nominations. Underwood has won the most career CMT Music Awards for a female artist with nine. Voting is open through June 1 at CMT.com and CMT Mobile.
As previously announced, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton will also perform on the 2014 CMT Music Awards. CMT will air the show live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on CMT at 8 p.m. ET.
Bryan and Florida Georgia Line follow Lambert with five nominations each. Keith Urban and Taylor Swift are tied with four each, while Hunter Hayes and Shelton each pulled in three nominations. Church and Underwood earned two nominations each, as did Cassadee Pope, Kacey Musgraves, Lady Antebellum, Pistol Annies, The Band Perry, Thomas Rhett and Tim McGraw.
Other nominees include Brett Eldredge, Cole Swindell, Dan + Shay, David Nail, Dierks Bentley, the Eli Young Band, Jake Owen, Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Randy Houser, Rascal Flatts, Sheryl Crow, Thompson Square, Tyler Farr, Willie Nelson and the Zac Brown Band.
Additionally, nominations also went to Fall Out Boy, Jason Mraz, Lionel Richie, Neil Young, Nelly and OneRepublic for their collaborations with country artists.
