KTIC Radio — Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley are early winners at the 48th Annual CMA Awards.
Keith and Miranda’s duet on “We Were Us” took the Musical Event of the Year category, and Dierks’ “Drunk on a Plane” won for Video of the Year. The announcement came Wednesday on ABC’s Good Morning America as Keith performed in the rain for a crowd outside Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
The 48th Annual CMA Awards broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena Wednesday night at 8:00 ET on ABC.
CMT — CMT will celebrate an incredible year in the country music industry by honoring Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban as the top country artists of 2014 in an all-new CMT Artists of the Year special.
The 90-minute event will air live from Nashville on Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. ET. It will bring together this year’s five honorees and their peers for an evening filled with star-studded performances and celebration honoring each artist’s successes over the past year.
Urban, a first-time honoree, joins Aldean, Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Lambert, all of whom have been honored in previous years. Aldean has been named a CMT Artist of the Year since the award’s inception in 2010.
Over the past 12 months, all five honorees have illustrated their impact in country music through massive radio airplay, chart-topping album sales and millions of individual downloads of their current singles. Additionally, these acts have sold out concert tours and, collectively, their videos have received hundreds of millions of streams, earning them the honor of being named one of the CMT Artists of the Year.
“Country music has never been bigger and these five are its biggest stars of 2014,” said John Hamlin, CMT’s senior vice president of music events and talent. “We do everything we can do to make sure this is the party of the year for them. And rightfully so. They’ve earned it.”
Past artists named as CMT Artists of the Year also include Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Hunter Hayes, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and the Zac Brown Band.
The Tennessean — Miranda Lambert is getting a new duet partner for the 48th annual CMA Awards — “All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor.
Lambert, the night’s top nominee, will perform “All About That Bass” with the pop star, who also is a Nashville resident.
Lambert and Trainor aren’t the only genre-hopping surprise of the night. Pop singer Ariana Grande will sing with Little Big Town.
Previously announced performers include Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw, The Band Perry and Keith Urban.
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will return as the show’s hosts for the seventh consecutive year.
The 48th annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 on ABC.
CMT — Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban have been confirmed as performers for the 48th annual CMA Awards, taking place Nov. 5 in Nashville. As reported earlier, Luke Bryan will also perform on the show.
Lambert leads the field with nine awards nominations, while Urban tallies four and Shelton is up for three. All three are competing against Bryan and George Strait for the night’s top award, entertainer of the year.
Set to air on ABC, the 48th annual CMA Awards will be hosted for the seventh year in a row by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
ABC News — Miranda Lambert released the most ambitious album of her career earlier this year and Country Music Association voters responded by giving her a record-tying load of nominations.
Lambert has nine nominations for the 48th annual CMA Awards, tying her own mark for the most nods to a female nominee, and nearly doubling her nearest competitor when the list was announced Wednesday in New York. Dierks Bentley is next with five nominations and Eric Church and Keith Urban have four apiece.
The 30-year-old Lambert is up for top honor entertainer of the year along with husband Blake Shelton and has nominations for major categories album of the year for “Platinum,” song and single of the year for “Automatic,” and is vying for her fifth straight female vocalist of the year trophy. She’s been among the top CMA nominees and winners since “Revolution” won album of the year in 2010 and now has 34 CMA nominations — behind Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn among women.
Urban, George Strait and Luke Bryan round out the entertainer of the year category where Lambert and Bryan are seeking their first win in that category. Bryan and Urban also are up for album of the year. Bryan’s “Crash My Party” and Urban’s “Fuse” join Bentley’s “Riser” and Church’s “The Outsiders” in the category.
New artist of the year nominees are Brandy Clark, Brett Eldredge, Kip Moore, Thomas Rhett and Cole Swindell.
Bryan and Shelton are tied with Kacey Musgraves and Carrie Underwood with three nominations apiece. The nominations were announced on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and at a news conference by Darius Rucker and Little Big Town. Underwood and Brad Paisley host the Nov. 5 show live from Nashville, Tennessee.
Lambert padded out her list of nominations with two apiece in the vocal event (“Somethin’ Bad” with Underwood and “We Were Us” with Urban) and music video (“Automatic” and “Somethin’ Bad”) categories. “Automatic,” the first single from “Platinum” written with Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby, was nominated for both song and single of the year as well. Lambert tied with Merle Haggard for second-most nominations overall. Only Alan Jackson in 2002 had more nominations in a single year with 10.
Lambert celebrated her collaborators in an email to The Associated Press.
“I woke up in NYC this morning to such great news!” wrote Lambert, who’s on tour in the area. “Not only am I so happy to be nominated but I’m happy to celebrate my husband’s and friends’ nominations! Natalie and Nicolle are two of the best songwriters I know and I’m so thrilled to share this with them. And also to be in a category with Carrie and Keith!”
Shelton and Lambert will be attempting to extend their record streak of wins by a married couple in the male and female vocalist categories. Each has won four straight. Lambert will be competing against Underwood, Musgraves, Taylor Swift and Martina McBride. Shelton faces Bentley, Bryan, Church and Urban.
The haul of nominations was a career best for Bentley, whose album “Riser” includes personal material from his own life, including his reaction to his father’s death and the birth of his son.
“It was totally unexpected,” Bentley said. “Dude, I’m not the guy who gets nominated. I’m the guy who knows the guy who gets nominated. That’s not who I am. I’m the guy who sits in the chair with my wife when the cameras come in close to get the ‘you just lost’ reaction shot.”
