After half a century in the music business, Loretta Lynn is to be honored at next month’s CMA Awards, when Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow deliver a special performance of Lynn’s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Lambert and Crow also sang a version of the 1970 hit with Lynn on a tribute album due out Nov. 9. The two were among an eclectic group of artists chosen for the album by Lynn herself – who hand-wrote personal notes to each asking them to participate – among them, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Kid Rock, the White Stripes, Paramore, Alan Jackson and Steve Earle.
Lynn, who was voted the CMA’s first female Entertainer of the Year in 1972, told PEOPLE she admires how Lambert (nominated for nine CMAs, including Entertainer of the Year) brings the “sassy” to her vocals. “I absolutely love her,” says Lynn, 75. “You have to stop and watch her when you see her.”
The 44th Annual CMA Awards, hosted by Underwood and Brad Paisley, will air Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Previously announced performers include Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Lambert, Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Sugarland, Underwood, Keith Urban, and Zac Brown Band with Alan Jackson.
